Makes “in” the USA, that is. 3D print service Shapeways announced they will now ship product from the USA – this means US-based users (and also nearby countries we suppose) will avoid the delays and shipping costs of Shapeways’ European distribution centre in the Netherlands.
Shapeways says they’re also “we are also increasing our local production in the USA”, which means they’ve either struck volume agreements with USA-based print services or are building their own print center.
Interesting side note: Shapeways says (accurately) that the new US-based capability will “reduce carbon”. Could this be one of the first incidents of commercial 3D Printing touting environmental benefits? It might not be, but we think it definitely won’t be the last.
