There is news from SUNLU 3D about print profiles and reusable spools.
The Chinese company is one of the major providers of filament and resin products for the desktop and professional markets, currently offering several dozen material types and plenty of color variations.
Integrated Print Profiles
Many operators use SUNLU 3D filaments, and they’ll be happy to know that the company has now provided proper print profiles integrated directly into Bambu Studio, the software that drives Bambu Lab devices.
This means that Bambu Lab operators can very easily achieve excellent print results by simply using the profiles provided, rather than searching the web for them. Since these profiles are periodically updated, they should be up to date with the latest tuning refinements.
SUNLU 3D listed the current profiles available:
- SUNLU PETG
- SUNLU PLA Marble
- SUNLU PLA Matte
- SUNLU PLA+, SUNLU PLA+ 2.0
- SUNLU Silk PLA+
- SUNLU Wood PLA
It sounds like they intend on adding more, and I expect professionals using Bambu Lab equipment will be most interested in profiles for SUNLU 3D’s extensive list of engineering materials.
Reusable Spool
The other news is that SUNLU 3D announced a new reusable spool. This is the third generation of a reusable spool design from the company, and it seems they’ve incorporated quite a few intriguing features into the product.
While most spools these days are some type of rigid cardboard, SUNLU 3D has opted for a hard plastic material for this reusable spool. The reason is that rather than throwing out the spool after use, it can be reused by placing a new coil of filament on it. Coils of filament can be substantially less expensive than regular spools of filament. Meanwhile, the cardboard spools from other companies are intended to be discarded and recycled.
SUNLU 3D has thought about the increasing practice of drying filament in their spool design. Another reason for the use of plastic is that the plastic is designed to withstand notable levels of heat and is therefore suitable for drying of engineering materials at high temperatures. SUNLU 3D said the Reusable Spool can be used when drying PA6, PA12, PC, for example, all high-temperature materials.
They’ve also designed the spool to include plenty of gaps for increased ventilation while drying. Most other spools have solid sides that would impede airflow.
There’s yet another reason for the use of hard plastic in this product. SUNLU 3D explains:
“Unlike cardboard spools, which absorb moisture and become deformed, SUNLU’s reusable spool maintains its shape and integrity over time. Cardboard options also suffer from high friction, which can cause feeding issues in AMS systems, and their low-strength adhesive construction makes them prone to damage during transport. SUNLU’s spool eliminates these issues with a sturdy, durable design, offering a reliable and sustainable solution for 3D printing enthusiasts.”
It appears that SUNLU 3D has done considerable thinking about spool design and incorporated these new features into what might be one of the best reusable spool designs available today.
