Stratasys is moving their HQ — but not very far.

The company is one of the largest players in the 3D print industry, and one of the first. They have been operating from their suburban Minneapolis campus for quite a few years.

I’ve been able to visit the facility on several occasions. It’s divided into several buildings, and because of this people must walk between them during the day. However, the company also has several off-campus locations, complicating work activities.

The goal seems to be a physical consolidation, as Stratasys explains:

“Stratasys today announced its plans to move its U.S.-based headquarters from Eden Prairie, Minn. to a new Minnetonka campus. With the move, Stratasys will consolidate most Minnesota-based offices into one larger, more dynamic corporate campus.”

Stratasys is taking the opportunity to build the new facility into a much more amenable environment for workers:

“It will feature the latest technology, enhanced amenities, and thoughtfully designed work areas to inspire innovation and creativity.”

The are accordingly expecting an increase in productivity, and increased ability to recruit top talent in the area.

Where is the new site? It turns out it’s literally blocks away from the old headquarters building, a ten minute drive. The new facility will be a redo of two leased buildings in the former United Health Care campus.

Stratasys intends on selling most of the buildings they vacate upon moving into the new headquarters in January, but will retain their Stratasys Direct service location near the original headquarters.

This has to be a very positive move for Stratasys staff, as they’ll soon be able to work in what should be a terrific workplace. It also demonstrates Stratasys’ confidence in the future, amidst investment gloom in the industry.
