The move is presented as a strategic step towards restructuring and growth.
It would have been strange, a few months ago, that BASF would spin out the Forward AM activities and brand if they were highly profitable. Instead, at the time, Managing Director Martin Back took it upon himself to prove that the company could make it into profitability.
However, it is now clear that Forward AM’s future must first pass through insolvency proceedings, which the company confirmed it has filed with the District Court of Heidelberg, where it is located. This decision reflects a proactive approach to restructuring the company while maintaining its commitment to fulfilling obligations and ensuring operational stability.
CEO Martin Back expressed confidence in the company’s ability to navigate this transition successfully. He emphasized Forward AM’s dedication to providing innovative solutions, supporting customer success, and reinforcing its leadership in the 3D printing industry.
Back believes that with the collaboration of partners and investors, Forward AM can secure new investments and build a stronger foundation for sustainable growth.
The court appointed attorney Tobias Wahl, a partner at Anchor Rechtsanwälte, as the preliminary insolvency administrator. Wahl has already begun evaluating the company’s financial and operational standing, initiating discussions with employees and business partners to devise a comprehensive plan for the company’s future.
According to Wahl, Forward AM has the necessary conditions in place to continue business operations without interruption, providing a stable foundation for long-term restructuring efforts.
Despite the insolvency filing, Forward AM remains committed to fulfilling all existing and new orders, ensuring uninterrupted support for its customers and partners. The company clarified that its local entities are not part of the insolvency process and will continue business as usual, focusing on the manufacturing and distribution of materials. This distinction ensures that customers relying on these subsidiaries will experience no disruptions in supply or service.
