Elegoo announced they’re developing their own 3D print slicing software tool, Elegoo SatelLite.

The company is one of several rapidly growing 3D printer manufacturers, so it’s natural they would consider building their own software. This would allow them to introduce features in the software that make their hardware products better.

The new Elegoo SatelLite software is targeted at resin 3D printer operators of Elegoo equipment, but we were told the new software will support other brands as well.

But what do they intend on putting in Elegoo SatelLite?

While the tool is not yet available for general testing, they do list a number of features. Three of them caught my eye.

The most important could be their “EVO Support System”. Here’s what Elegoo says about it:

“Elegoo’s EVO Support System automatically analyzes your model and suggests the ideal support structure for flawless prints. With extensive customization options, it caters to advanced users who want total control. Whether you prioritize speed or precision, EVO guarantees professional-quality results every time.”

The automated generation of support structures is frequently the weak point in resin slicers. I’ve had countless resin print jobs fail because the automated supports were inadequate or inappropriate. As a result, I — and most resin 3D printer operators — very carefully scrutinize any generated supports and end up adding a lot more.

If Elegoo has made software that truly generates practical supports, it could be of incredible benefit, and enable many more people to become competent resin 3D printer operators.

The second feature of interest is a “comprehensive material library”. That’s something that is sorely lacking in most resin slicing tools. The library items, essential print profiles, match materials to machines and therefore near-guarantee reasonable print results.

Elegoo describes the system as “one-click access to official profiles”, which should dramatically simplify the slicing process. It may even eliminate some of the iterations that typically take place while dialing in the parameters.

Finally, Elegoo SatelLite includes “advanced repair algorithms” that fix broken 3D models. Many slicers include this functionality, but the results are typically horrible and can effectively destroy the 3D model. I’m hoping that Elegoo has figured out this problem and presents a usable repair service, built right into their system.

As I mentioned, Elegoo SatelLite is not yet available. They’re targeting a release for late this year for the Windows platform, and a Mac version in Q1 2025. Sorry, Linux users!
