This week’s selection is the highly over-engineered Side Bin by Printables contributor SMACKMAX.

The other week we featured the Counter Bin, which was a cup-like object that helped collect bits off of a tabletop. That item is incredibly useful, but this week’s design is a more sophisticated — and truly over-engineered — similar cleaning tool.

The Side Bin also collects stray bits from a tabletop, but unlike the handheld Counter Bin, the Side Bin is permanently attached to the tabletop via a clamp. It then sits patiently until you swish all the bits into it with your arm. SMACKMAX explains:

“I have alot of small trash that i scoot up with my hand, losing a bit on the floor everytime. This should solve this very Niche issue that i have haha.”

The Side Bin includes a clamping system that can grab onto surfaces between 10-40mm thickness. It’s tightened with a ridiculously huge knob that adds to the character of this item.

When the bin is full, it slides out to dispose of the bits, and then can be replaced for more cleaning.

It’s composed of several parts, all of which are easily 3D printed. There are two variations of the bin’s bottom, one with a drain hole, and another without. Choose carefully!

The beauty of this model is that it is always ready, waiting on the side of your work table. You don’t need to reach for it; you just use it.

That’s the best kind of 3D print.
