This week’s selection is the Helical High-Capacity AAA Battery Magazine by Cults contributor qfrederick.

This is a terrific design that provides storage and access to AAA-size batteries. Sure, there are tons of battery storage 3D models that you can choose from, but this one seems different.

Once the batteries are loaded, you need only twist the central core. The batteries are tilted and fall out into your hand automatically. It’s quite cool to watch how it works.

qfrederick explains how it works:

“I designed a helical battery magazine for AAA batteries, but with the batteries slanted instead of upright. In a usual helical magazine holding cylindrical objects, the axes of the cylinders are parallel to the helix axis, but not with this one.”

It’s an easy, albeit large, print. There are only two parts: the core and the housing. qfrederick explained that it should take around 231g of filament, so it’s not small.

The model is available for free download from Cults, where you can also find several other unique designs from qfrederick.
