This week’s selection is “Fusion 360 for Makers” by Lydia Sloan Cline.
This book may be familiar; it was our Book of the Week way back in 2021. Is this a repeat? By no means – it’s the second edition of the book.
That’s important because Autodesk tends to update Fusion 360 frequently. Often new features are added, which offer new opportunities for design and efficiency.
Autodesk’s Fusion 360 is a very popular tool for 3D design, and it’s quite unique. It isn’t a free, open source tool — but it can be obtained for free. (There is a free version for non-commercial hobbyist or student use with only slightly limited features). It isn’t a basic 3D design tool either, as it has an incredibly vast set of features that make it perfectly capable as a professional design system for production parts.
The book is targeted at makers, who can gain free access to Fusion 360 as described above. It provides an easy-to-read introduction to the Fusion 360 interface and its concepts using plenty of illustrations.
There are a number of DIY projects described, and the intention is that by following through with them, the reader will gain a significant handle on how Fusion 360 can be used. The author also has tested each projects to conclusion to ensure they work well for learners.
Finally, the book will certainly help readers learn how to create 3D models for 3D printing — but will also show how to make 3D models for CNC milling, which is also supported by Fusion 360.
If you’re interested in learning Fusion 360 from scratch or want to delve deeper into the tool, this book could be a good option.
