We had a chat with BigTree Tech to see their latest 3D printer upgrade products.
The company is a well-known producer of parts for desktop 3D printers, and even has a few 3D printers of their own. Recently, much of their focus has been on providing upgrade parts for the very popular Bambu Lab series of 3D printers.
We even tested several of their “Panda” series of upgrades, which include “fur” — an insulating layer that covers the exterior case of a P1S 3D printer to capture additional heat. We tested several different upgrades on our P1S, and they were all very interesting.
It seems they’ve continued along this path and developed yet more fascinating upgrades to Bambu Lab equipment.
The first item we looked at was the Panda Sense. This is a combo temperature / humidity sensor for the build chamber. This allows the operator to know when to begin a print after a specific build chamber temperature has been achieved.
This is the Panda Turbo. It’s a replacement blower system for rapidly cooling freshly extruded materials. It includes a 60w CPAP-style blower fan that can deliver an enormous amount of cool air to the printhead. This should greatly assist when printing delicate structures at high speed.
This is the Panda Extruder. It’s a curious design, made of a sparse structure of spars. The idea here is that sometimes jams occur when heat creeps up into the filament, softening it enough to bend around the gears.
The Panda Extruder fixes that by allowing cool air to freely pass through the extruder, keeping the filament very cool.
The last item, the Panda Knowmi, is one of the most unusual accessories for a 3D printer I’ve ever seen. It’s intended to replace the printhead cover on the Bambu Lab A1 or A1 Mini, not the P1x series.
That circular component is actually a live LCD display! The Knowmi allows the system to display messages to the 3D printer operator, or display different colors to match the nearby room style or even printer status.
It wasn’t quite clear to me how the software works with the Knowmi, but finding out will be fun for DIY 3D printer operators.
At top you can see the Knowmi displaying an error message, which seems to be a good application for the accessory.
BigTree Tech’s latest batch of improvements for Bambu Lab equipment is quite fascinating, and I’m sure at least some of them will be of interest to Bambu Lab 3D printer operators.
