This week’s selection is the Minimalist Quick Change Toilet Paper Holder by Arthur Tipaldi.
Finally, after thirteen years I get to talk about toilet paper on Fabbaloo! And what a story! This model is for a simple toilet paper holder, but it is specifically designed to permit quick changes.
I don’t know about you, but I am continually frustrated by inadequate toilet roll holders that are awkward to use with a single hand, or even worse, release the roll at just the wrong moment, causing an unfortunate mess.
To the rescue comes this design from Lyon-based Tipaldi, which enables quick changes. The trick here is that there is not a solid length around the toilet paper roll’s axis. Instead there are only two short stubs at each end. These are more than sufficient to hold the lightweight roll.
The magic is that these two stubs can rotate. They freely tip up, but do not tip down. Thus, to add a roll you move it up (which tips the stubs to allow the roll to move in) and then back down (which allows the stubs to tip into the toilet paper roll’s core). How elegant!
Tipaldi explains:
“Quick change toilet paper holders have been around for, like, well for about as long as toilet paper rolls!
There are many different designs, and some started to 3D print their own, but I couldn’t find one that met my requirements, I wanted it simple, minimalist, good looking, easy and quick to print and assemble, so I designed my own version that can hold paper rolls up to ~110mm long.”
Here’s a video of the holder in action:
This is totally brilliant!
Tipaldi has also ensured mounting is simple by including a number of differently-spaced holes in the back to permit many different configurations.
Toilet experiences will never be the same.
