Women in 3D Printing Announces First Annual Conference

An appropriate announcement for International Women’s Day today, Women in 3D Printing is pleased to introduce its first annual conference.

The TIPE Conference highlights four primary tracks: Technology, Industry, People, Economics.

Set to take place for the first time in Denver, Colorado on January 27 and 28, 2021, the event is a first not only for Wi3DP, but for the additive manufacturing industry: it will be the first with an all-female speakers lineup.

Much like other conferences in 3D printing don’t tout their often-all-male lineups, though, that isn’t the primary factor at play for this event. While the event is put on by Wi3DP and thus inherently highlights the growing diversity of the 3D printing industry, you won’t find the oft-appearing “diversity panel” here. Rather, each speaker is being selected to address their areas of expertise.

The agenda is a work-in-progress, with the call for speakers open now, and initial inquiries have been very positive.

Full disclosure: I’m on the Board of Directors at Women in 3D Printing and on the executive committee putting together the TIPE Conference. And I couldn’t be more excited about the event and its implications.

TIPE is being built up to offer a different look at the industry than many of the other events already on the busy 3D printing calendar. While, for example, there will be a Partners Pavilion, TIPE isn’t a trade show; the focus is on building relationships, not selling machines or materials.

The entire event is centered around the people in the industry and what they’re making happen:

“With a focus on case studies, additive manufacturing user applications, visionary talks on the future, and people shaping the industry, TIPE | 2021 curates an inspirational all-female agenda of speakers and panelists. Long-lasting connections and networking opportunities are emphasized throughout this human-centered event, which welcomes all members of the additive manufacturing and related community.”

Women in 3D Printing Founder Nora Touré explains:

“With a mission of ‘Promoting, supporting, and inspiring women using Additive Manufacturing technologies,’ Women in 3D Printing seeks to foster a more diverse industry. Within five years of existence, Women in 3D Printing managed to grow from a simple blog to one of the largest Additive Manufacturing community worldwide, with over 60 chapters in 23 countries. The TIPE 3D Printing conference is built by and for this community of 10,000+, and features an inspirational all-female agenda of speakers over a 2-day global conference, which is a world’s premiere for the industry. A series of workshops and two un-conferences will also be provided during this event.

TIPE | 2021 is the kickoff for a new annual event that will be located in a different city around the world each year. With a strong US base, the inaugural conference will be located in Denver.
