Standardization of 3D Automated Construction Technology could help the global 3DCP industry move forward.

The International Code Council (ICC) has announced the development of ICC 1150, the first-ever standard for 3D Automated Construction Technology (3DACT) for 3D Concrete Walls. This standard aims to provide comprehensive structural criteria for interior and exterior 3D printed concrete walls, supporting load-bearing, non-load-bearing, and shear wall applications in single-story and multi-story structures.

The ICC 1150 standard is being developed through the Code Council’s ANSI Accredited Consensus Procedures, ensuring a rigorous, balanced, and transparent process. In January 2023, committee members were called to ensure diverse industry representation. By July 2023, the ICC Board of Directors had finalized committee appointments.

The first teleconference meeting of the committee took place on October 20, 2023, to initiate the standard’s development. The most recent meeting was held on October 11, 2024, during which the committee approved the public comment draft for ANSI public review.

The public comment draft is now available under the “Administration” section and an ICC Standards Public Comment Form. The public review period will begin on December 13, 2024, and conclude on January 27, 2025. Interested individuals may submit comments to the staff secretariat before the deadline.

The next committee meeting to review public comments is scheduled for February 14, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (PST). The ICC strongly supports openness and transparency in standard development.

All committee meetings are open to the public, allowing interested individuals to attend, join work groups formed by the committee, or be considered for committee membership.

To participate or receive updates, individuals can contact Melissa Sanchez, S.E., Sr. Staff Engineer at ICC, via email at msanchez@icc-es.org.
