We did a quick test of 3DMakerpro’s new facial scanner.
What’s a facial scanner? It’s a specialized 3D scanning system that is able to very quickly capture a highly detailed 3D model of a subject’s face.
The JMFACE is a product from 3DMakerpro’s medical product line, along with dental 3D scanners, body and lab scanners. The company is also well-known for their highly effective general-purpose 3D scanners, several of which we’ve tested.
At the top, you can see what the system looks like. It has two arms that reach around to see the sides of the face, as well as a central scanning element. There are actually four 3D scanners embedded in the JMFACE: left, right, central, and bottom. These all look suspiciously similar to the company’s smaller 3D scanners, like the Moose.
Operation of the JMFACE is very straightforward: the subject sits in front of the unit, and the scan begins. The process takes only ten seconds, and each scanner moves slightly to ensure coverage of the entire area.
Who would use this device? 3DMakerpro believes it will be used by cosmetic surgeons that may want a detailed 3D scan of patients in order to plan surgeries. There’s also the possibility of using the JMFACE for dental applications, particularly aligners.
Nevertheless, the technology is quite new and doesn’t yet appear on 3DMakerpro’s website. It’s likely there will be many different applications that go well beyond 3DMakerpro’s thinking.
