A new 3D model generator has emerged that can produce models of crystals.
Generators are a terrific way to create 3D models for printing. Because they are unique — no other 3D model is likely to be the same.
In this case, Printables contributor Rushberg has developed a website, “Crystal Maker”, dedicated to generating 3D models of crystals. The style is much like you’d see from rock collectors, with a series of crystals growing from a central source.
Using the service is straightforward. There are three “tiers” of crystals in the generator, and you tweak the parameters for each.
Parameters are quite detailed, and include basically every aspect of each crystal. These include ranges for height, number of faces, etc. They are pretty easy to adjust, and then you must hit the “Generate” button to see a new iteration. There is no “real time” generation.
These generated crystals could be quite interesting when printed with shiny materials like PETG, or especially with the increasingly popular rainbow filaments. It would also be interesting to print them with clear resin, as some polishing might make them transparent.
If you want crystals, and who doesn’t, then give Crystal Maker a try: it’s free for use.
