Massivit scored big at a recent exhibition.
The Israeli company produces large-format 3D printers that can produce polymer objects for use in several applications. Large items, such as props, displays or similar have long been key applications for their equipment. More recently the company has developed technology to print huge molds for casting. This technology has enabled many companies to make their manufacturing processes more efficient.
The company reports that at the recent drupa printing exhibition they collected purchase orders for no less than 15 systems from eager clients. That’s quite a haul for the company, and represents US$3M in revenue.
The orders were for the company’s latest device, the Massivit 3000. This huge machine offers a build volume of 1200 x 1500 x 1800 mm, and uses the company’s GDP (Gel Dispensing Printing) technology. GDP involves selectively depositing a photopolymer gel (as opposed to a liquid resin), which is then immediately cured with a strong UV light source on the toolhead.
The Massivit 3000 is able to very quickly produce large, life-sized objects in only a matter of hours. Using FFF technology objects of that size could take days or even weeks, even with high speed equipment.
Fifteen devices may not sound like many, especially compared to low-end equipment where tens of thousands are sold each month. However, large scale industrial equipment is quite different: fewer machines are sold, but at far higher prices. This is a big deal for Massivit, and no doubt will pop their valuation in this week’s 3D print company leaderboard.
