This week’s selection is the Articulated Poseable Hand by designer Riccardo Minervino
Minervino has published several 3D models on a variety of public 3D model repositories. He seems to have a liking for articulated 3D models, as his collection includes both male and female posable 3D models, as well as something called the “Sexy Space Bunny Girl”, but we won’t get into that one.
The Articulated Poseable Hand is exactly what it seems to be: an articulated hand 3D print that can be posed. It’s made from a series of parts that are the same as the parts you have in your hands — assuming you have all ten fingers, that is.
It’s a fairly straightforward 3D print, as Minervino has arranged for all 23 parts to be 3D printed in a single print job. Then it’s a matter of assembling the parts together, and he’s provided a seven-minute video showing how this is done:
What can you do with the resulting assembly? For starters, take a look at the accompanying promo video:
If you think about it, this print can hold almost anything you could hold in your hands — because it’s a hand! You can pose it to hold another object for utility purposes, like a small LED light, for example. Or you can have it hold notes for others to read. Or, well, you get the idea. The sky is the limit here.
The posable hand can also be simply positioned to make hand signals, like “Halt”, or “OK”. Or other popular signals one might make with their fingers. Yes, you can do those, too.
One more thing: the stock 3D model here results in a hand that’s about a third the size of a human hand. I imagine that it is entirely possible to scale up the 3D model to have a life-size hand. Or even bigger.
Then those hand signals could be even more interesting!
How can you obtain this 3D model? Minervino has posted it on several 3D model repositories, including at the MyMiniFactory link below. It’s not exactly a free 3D model, however, as Minervino is charging the whopping fee of US$5 for the ability to download it. Once downloaded, you can freely 3D print as many copies as you like.
