A new Kickstarter project proposes to “create the first album recorded entirely on 3D printed instruments.”

The project is headed by two young musicians, “buddha and the cornbread” of Easton, Maryland. They explain the project:

Buddha and the Cornbread were trying to come up with an idea for their fourth album, when Cornbread stumbled upon the blueprints for a 3D printed ukulele. The gang decided to create the first-ever 3D printed album- but there was one problem. They had spent all their samolians on Pokemon cards and Twinkies. So they turned to the greatest hero of all… Crowdsourcing.

Rewards for contributing to the project include a digital copy of the eventual album, and a crayon picture if you donate more. The highest donation will fetch you your own song on the album. Can they do it? They say:

But seriously, we’re idiots so it might be hard to write all these songs. However, we’re creative idiots and we’ve already created a few albums, so it shouldn’t be much of a problem.

We’re wondering if this is in fact the first 3D printed album, as the folks from 3D Systems have had a 3D printed band for some years now (see image above from early 2013 that clearly shows 3D printed musical instruments), and their band has since that time included many more 3D printed instruments. They likely have not produced an album with original work, however, in spite of their frequent trade show appearances.

Regardless, if you’d like to help these guys buy a 3D printer for production of band instruments, head over to Kickstarter.
