Sculpteo Launches FinalProof

Sculpteo launched FinalProof at CES 2015, the first realistic 3D printing preview feature.

FinalProof enables makers for the first time to visually see the layered simulation of the 3D object before printing.

All of us “early” adopters of 3D printing have come across the occasional print that doesn’t turn out because the amount of overhang was too much for the printer to handle. With Sculpteo’s new software, “FinalProof”, users are able to see a simulated layer view instead of the widely adopted smooth CAD view. This allows users to determine if layer overhangs are too drastic, or if any other changes are needed that would have otherwise been noticed after the print started.

FinalProof simulates potential deformations that could occur during 3D printing. It shows the end-user the loss of detail that can take place, dramatically reducing wasted prints.  Although filling yet another gap in the 3D printing process, FinalProof is just a drop in the bucket of newly released tech in the 3D printing industry this year at CES. 

With a tool as greatly needed as FinalProof finally being released by Sculpteo at no charge to their users, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that similar software like Simplify3D and MakerBot’s MakerWare, and competing 3D print services such as Shapeways and i.Materialise may introduce similar capabilities soon.
