Have You Entered the Icebox Challenge?

FirstBuild is running an interesting challenge: develop a 3D printed solution involving a refrigerator. 

Wait, who is FirstBuild? Itā€™s a partnership between crowdsourced automotive design group Local Motors and General Electric (thatā€™s where the refrigerator angle comes in, we suspect.) The partnership is intended to develop new approaches for designing appliances. 

Thus, theyā€™ve issued a challenge to the community. Hereā€™s the brief description: 

The household refrigerator has been an amazing invention that has transformed the way people and families eat and socialize. The refrigerator is the hub of the kitchen and now 3D Printers give us the ability to customize this hub to fit our lifestyles. We are collaborating with the Thingiverse community to present the Icebox challenge. This challenge is aimed at designing solutions that can be placed inside of your refrigerator. Ideas could range from purely 3D printed pieces to battery operated electromechanical devices.  

The contest ceases accepting submissions on November 23d, so thereā€™s still time to invent and submit something unusual / crazy / useful / pretty for frosty use. Submission is actually straightforward: you simply upload your designs to Thingiverse with the special tag, ā€œ#IceboxChallengeā€. 

Why participate? Because there are prizes! First place gets a new MakerBot Replicator (5thGen) or a MakerBot Replicator 2X; Second place receives a Replicator Mini and Third place receives a pile of filament. All winners will have their cold creations featured on Thingiverse.
