Rumors continue to swirl regarding HP’s long-awaited entry to the 3D printing market.
HP has indicated they will make some form of announcement this October. That is, THIS MONTH. So we’re waiting patiently to see what they say.
But what might they announce?
Our previous speculation involved their memjet technology, which could, if ingeniously applied, create incredibly rapid 3D printing with a completely new 3D printing process.
Others, like GigaOM, conclude HP might be developing a glass 3D printer based on the requirements of a job advertisement.
However, nothing is certain until something specific is announced. Many companies, particularly large tech companies, often explore many avenues searching for the best product approach. It could be the glass research is for a distant future project or an experiment that never is announced.
We don’t even know if HP will announce a consumer or industrial machine. Or both.
What we can say is this: it’s unlikely a glass printer would be for consumers, since the melting point of glass, necessary for printing, is an incredible 1500C or more depending on composition.
