3D printer manufacturer Trinity Labs announced that it’s closing its doors forever.
The Portland, Oregon-based company manufactured the Aluminatus Evo-1 3D Printer, priced at USD$3,599. It’s a relatively large format machine with a 300 x 300 x 340mm build volume, surrounded by an all-aluminum frame. The machine includes a variety of other features that have now become common from most startup 3D printer manufacturers.
They say:
It is with deep regret that TrinityLabs, LLC is closing its doors for good. We have had some amazing highs and very difficult lows, however have decided to discontinue operations. We are very thankful for the welcoming we’ve received from the 3D printing community and for all of your support.
We wish them well in future endeavors, but suspect this is perhaps the first of many small 3D printer manufacturers to expire. While the market is growing rapidly, the capability and marketing gap between startups and established vendors is widening. We believe that many similar small startups will not be able to compete in the next few years, leading to an industry consolidation.
This is a common phenomenon in an expanding market, but in other industries companies might expect to be bought out by a larger competitor to capture market share. However, that’s not going to be the case here. Most of the expiring 3D printer companies will simply disappear or refocus their efforts on some other aspect of 3D printing.
