This week’s selection is the 3D Printed Belt by Thingiverse designer Philippe Kervizic.
You might imagine a flexible belt would be made by assembling a number of smaller pieces, and you’d be correct. The 3D Printed Belt is in fact a tool kit for creating a belt. It includes these units:
- Two interlocking center parts, intended to be alternated through the middle of the belt
- Two additional center parts with holes in them – for attaching the buckle
- Another center parts with a male attachment
- The buckle
- A beginning
- An end
- A dowel to connect pieces
And that’s all you’ll need to 3D print your own belt. However, you’ll have to measure your waist to determine the number of pieces you’ll require for a complete and comfortable circumference. You’ll need one buckle, beginning and end, and an indeterminate number of middle pieces. In fact, you’ll need to 3D print 40-60 pieces or more, so be prepared for a lot of printing. For variety, we recommend designing a color scheme: print some of the pieces with differently colored filament.
We like this design because it’s a fashion item you could conceivably 3D print at home on your own. In our experience, multi-part 3D prints are usually much more impressive than singleton objects.
And it’s free for download, too.
