TechHive has gained access to Solidoodle’s New York factory to get a close look at the production process used by the small 3D printer manufacturer.

What we found interesting was the fact that a bank of 23 Solidoodle printers run continuously making Solidoodle parts! A factory made of the item it makes.

TechHive reports that aside from the part printing, much of the Solidoodle assembly process is manual. Currently Solidoodle employs 60 staff and has produced over 4000 personal 3D printers. They’ve been so successful they’ve begun an expansion that will include a factory in Moscow and a Brazilian distributor, with more to follow.
