Massive hurricane Sandy slammed into the east coast of the USA this week and caused a tremendous amount of damage, but how did 3D printing fare during the event?
Aside from the numerous individual “we can’t make it to work” scenarios, there has been only limited affects. We’ve seen no announcements from 3D Systems, whose headquarters is located somewhat close to the hurricane zone.
We did see an announcement from Shapeways, however, who are located in NYC where much damage occurred. They say:
- Their website was down and may not be restored until power can be reactivated
- Their new factory escaped damage
- Shipments from their NYC location will be delayed
And most importantly, all their folks are safe and secure.
3Dsystems is in RockHill, South Carolina.
This is closer to Charlotte, NC than the Atlantic
Ocean, which is 3 to 4 hours away!
